Mosquito-Repellent Planter: Summer Beauty with a Purpose
Keep the bugs away—naturally and beautifully!
If you’re anything like us, you love spending a summer night on the porch or patio—but don't love the mosquitos that come with PA summers! That’s why we designed this fragrant and functional Mosquito-Repellent Planter using some of our favorite herbs and blooms that are known to help keep pests at bay.
This recipe not only releases natural mosquito repelling scents, it also looks beautiful! Plus, several of the ingredients are edible, too!
Our Go-To Mosquito-Repellent Planter Recipe
Thriller (height + drama):
- Lemongrass – This tall beauty steals the show and naturally repels mosquitoes with its citrusy scent.
Fillers (texture + color):
- Citronella Geranium – A must for any "buzz off" design, these blooms smell great and offer gorgeous blooms all summer long.
- Purple Basil – Adds a pop of deep color, repels insects, and it's edible! Perfect for summer recipes.
- Lavender – Not just fragrant and calming—mosquitoes hate it! Plus, it beautifully balanced colors with purple basil.
- Marigolds (we used Strawberry Blonde) – A splash of warm, sunset tones and another natural pest deterrent.
Trailers (soft spillover + fragrance):
- Creeping Rosemary – Edible, aromatic, and elegant as it trails over the edge.
- Peppermint – Fresh, lively, and another edible option mosquitoes won’t love.
Design Tips
- Start by planting the tallest plant (in this case the lemongrass) in the center of your pot. This makes it easier to keep your design balanced as you plant
- This is a full sun design! Perfect for keeping out on your porch or patio this summer.
- We recommend keeping this planter close to your favorite seating area to enjoy it's mosquito repellent qualities.
